Educational Objectives

The residency program incorporates CREOG's Educational Objectives into the four-year program curriculum. 

Mission Statement:  

Our mission is to train future specialists and subspecialist practitioners, to serve society by providing outstanding patient-centered care, contributing to knowledge and scholarship in women’s health, while advocating and promoting excellence in obstetrics and gynecology.  We take tremendous pride in the accomplishments and multi-faceted career paths of our graduates including frontline care providers, NIH-funded basic science researchers, advocates for women’s health, educators, and leaders in academic Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Major Aims of the Program are to Provide:

Our aim as a training program is to provide rigorous clinical experience and didactics with the goal of excellence in general obstetrics and gynecology; along with opportunities for individualized training as a foundation for a fulfilling career in medicine by promoting expertise, leadership skills, and scholarly achievement. We strive to build a supportive learning and working environment that allows physicians to grow as role models for professionalism, caring, and compassion. We are committed to a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion centered on the well-being of all individuals in our clinical and academic community.  We endeavor to harness our integrated capabilities to deliver outstanding safe, quality, and high-value care.

Overall Educational Objectives of the Program:

  • Provide a structured curriculum and effective evaluation/feedback process that allows ob/gyn residents to achieve and demonstrate proficiency in the core competencies of patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and systems-based practice.
  • Produce graduates who effectively utilize the medical literature to optimize the care of their patients and who demonstrate a commitment to the practice of life-long learning.
  • Provide the opportunity for residents to participate in meaningful research relevant to women’s health and to disseminate their findings at national/regional meetings and in published form. Mentor and encourage ongoing research after completing residency.
  • Provide a curriculum and training environment that produces graduates who maintain a high standard of professionalism and ethics in their practice, including altruism, adherence to core principles of informed consent, disclosure of medical errors, documentation, and medical record completion.
  • Provide a curriculum and outstanding faculty role models that produce graduates with strong teaching skills, and a commitment to use these skills to educate their patients, other health professionals, and society.
  • Provide a structured curriculum and experiential learning that produce leaders in the areas of patient safety and systems-based practice.
  • Provide a curriculum, training environment, and professional role models that produce graduates with a strong commitment to the psychosocial needs of their patients and women in society, particularly in the areas of cultural competence, family planning, cancer detection, substance abuse, domestic violence, sexually transmitted infections, sexual preferences, and underserved populations.
  • Provide a structured curriculum and experiential learning that produces graduates who are adept at teamwork and communication in multiple healthcare venues and situations.
