Department of OBGYN

Maternal-Fetal Medicine

The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine is comprised of 30 physicians and 5 advanced practice providers including many national and international experts in the management of high-risk pregnancies. Our team assists and guides patients and their families through complex pregnancies that may include mothers with chronic medical conditions or unexpected pregnancy complications, fetal abnormalities such as growth issues or birth defects, or babies that need fetal intervention or surgery during pregnancy. Our approach is multidisciplinary, collaborative, and patient-centered bringing general obstetricians, specialists, and pediatric providers together- all focused on protecting the health and well-being of the mothers and babies entrusted to our care. Residents are integral members of the maternal-fetal medicine team working with division members daily in the labor suite managing not only our laboring patients but also our critically ill inpatients in the obstetrical ICU. Antepartum and medically complex postpartum patients are managed by our antepartum service which is comprised of a second-year resident and a fourth-year resident, as well as a maternal-fetal medicine fellow and two advanced practice providers. Residents provide outpatient pregnancy care to high-risk patients in the maternal-fetal medicine office and work closely with fellows and attending physicians. Academically, our division is known for its research productivity.  Residents are consistently involved in more than two-thirds of these projects and frequently travel with us to present their original research. Our faculty consistently serves as the primary research mentor for many resident research projects, averaging at least 2 residents per year. Our resident projects are consistently recognized among the top projects throughout the residency and lead to publication in peer-reviewed journals.
