4th Annual Seeds of Hope Dinner

October 21, 2020 - 5:30pm to 8:30pm

Hamot Health Foundation and Magee-Womens Research Institute are proud to host Seeds of Hope 2020.

This popular, fast-growing event brings together some of the country’s best scientists, researchers and oncologists to share the very latest in world-class research for women. Our mission is to raise awareness of the importance in  supporting women’s health research.

Last year, we raised funds for the Magee Obstetric Medical and Infant (MOMI) Database and Biobank, a new project which will soon launch operations at Magee-Womens, UPMC Hamot. Our advocacy, dedication and enthusiasm over the past few years has set the stage for what has been an exciting year for Erie.

In September, The Erie Community Foundation awarded a $6 million grant, the largest in its 84-year history, to expand Magee-Womens Research Institute (MWRI) to Erie and create a new biomedical commercialization and translational research lab at Penn State Behrend’s Knowledge Park.

Hamot Health Foundation, UPMC, Magee-Womens Research Institute and Penn State Behrend, have partnered together to bring the Pittsburgh-based MWRI to Erie. This expansion will bring clinical and translational research opportunities to our community including reproductive development, pregnancy and newborn medicine, infectious disease, gynecology, reproductive endocrinology and cancer. In addition to improving the health of women in our community, the expansion will create a new sector in Erie’s economy.

“This new initiative will raise the level of care for women in Erie, where local rates of ovarian, breast and lung cancers for women all exceed state and national averages,” said Robert Edwards, M.D., professor and chair of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and co-leader of the Breast and Ovarian Cancer Program at UPMC Hillman. “We will build upon the reputation and clinical expertise we have brought to Erie through UPMC Magee and UPMC Hillman to add research and clinical trials that will be specific to the Erie community.”

We believe MWRI Erie has amazing possibilities and has the potential to change millions of lives by revolutionizing women’s health care and accelerating the translation of research from the lab to the patients’ bedside.

We know Erie can do this with the greatest success!

Proceeds will be used to support world-class gynecologic oncology research through the Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation’s campaign and will be designated to the CC GS Gynecological Cancer Research & Education Fund for researchers and physicians to utilize as needed.
