The University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences is the #1 NIH-funded ob-gyn department in the U.S. Under the leadership of Yoel Sadovsky, MD, the Vice-Chair of Research for the Department, we have attracted over $30 million in grant funding.
Dr. Sadovsky leads Magee-Womens Research Institute – the largest women’s health research facility in the U.S. Areas of funded research include screening and management of preneoplastic disease, family planning, endoscopic surgery, menopause, infectious disease, vulvar disorders, non-surgical treatment of urinary incontinence, and the molecular biology of pelvic organ prolapse. Other areas in which there is ongoing, active research include reproductive neuroscience, clinical epidemiology, molecular biology, ovarian physiology, the physiology of puberty, noninvasive methods of prenatal diagnosis, etiology of recurrent pregnancy loss, mechanisms of cancer predisposition, treatment of preterm labor and identification of factors predictive of preterm labor, preeclampsia and the mechanisms leading to its development, and epidemiologic factors contributing to perinatal mortality.
